Our School

St. Bernadette's is a Catholic primary school offering full–time education for Reception to Year 6 (4-11year olds) with attached Nursery unit (part-time pupils) for 3 year old children. Situated about a mile from Brownhills High Street in a pleasant location, overlooking the old, disused, railway line, the school comes under the authority of the Catholic Archdiocese of Birmingham and Walsall Metropolitan Borough Council/Walsall Children’s Services.

The school has been providing Catholic education in Brownhills since 1972 and is situated in grounds comprising two playing fields. The school has a maximum annual intake of 30. Currently there are seven classes and a nursery unit. The centre of the building is a courtyard area, used by the Nursery and Reception children for outdoor education provision.

The school is deemed a small school and as such staff members are able to know each child individually and uniquely.  Each child is regarded as a child of God with his/her own self-worth and dignity, which the school aims to recognise, foster and develop throughout his/her time at St. Bernadette's.

The catchment area of the school is Brownhills, Clayhanger, Norton Canes and Stonnall.  In recent years there has been interest from Pelsall and even further afield. Priority for admission is given to baptised  Catholics. However, because of the school’s excellent reputation for pastoral care and academic achievement the number of non-Catholic children has increased in recent years.

The traditional secondary school that children attend from here is St. Francis of Assisi R.C. Catholic Technology College, Aldridge.  However, only Catholic children are certain to be offered places there. Other popular secondary schools are Brownhills School, Cardinal Griffin Catholic High School, Cannock, The Queen Mary Schools, Walsall, Shire Oak Academy Walsall, Shelfield Community Academy, Erasmus Darwin Academy and The Friary School, Lichfield.
