PE and Sport Premium

Vision for Sport at St Bernadette's

We recognise what PE and school sport can achieve for each pupil and the whole school.  We believe that through sport, pupils can build self-esteem, team work and leadership skills.  By placing PE and sport at the heart of a broad and balanced curriculum we aim to inspire our children to engage in physical activity, raise their attainment, extend their potential and develop a lifelong active lifestyle.

At St Bernadette's we make our vision a reality by:-

  •   providing enough time, and equipment for pupils to learn and achieve
  •   supporting and developing teachers to enable children to achieve more
  •   using the information from monitoring/evaluating the impact of PE and school sport to ensure the school's vision  is met
  •   providing opportunities for children to take part in competitive sport
  •   explaining to pupils the value of sport to learning, health and well-being
  •   listening to pupils and acting on what they say
  •   celebrating pupils achievements so that they feel successful and valued
  •   informing and involving parents/carers

What is Sports Premium?

The Government is providing an additional funding for primary schools in order to develop a "sporting legacy" in the wake of the 2012 Olympic Games. This funding was made available to Head Teachers who need to account for the allocation of the funding and to evaluate the benefit to pupils.  The level of funding provided to schools is based on pupil numbers recorded in the annual school census. This funding is ring-fenced and therefore can only be spent on provision of PE and sport in schools.

The funding was calculated using the number of primary aged children between the ages of 5 and 11 years who are on roll.
